One of the EPIBOOST objectives is to disseminate and communicate science to the local people through outreach activities. This is why the participation of the project in major events at the EU level such as the European Researchers night are very much considered by our team. This year, EPIBOOST was on the floor both at Barcelona (on the 27th of September 2023) and at Aveiro (on the 29th of September 2023).
The Post Doctoral researcher of the EPIBOOST project working at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC), Dr. Janan Gawra had the privilege of participating in the “Science Slam CSIC Catalunya” event organized by the Catalan Association of Science Communication (ACCC). Dr. Gawra participated in a short presentation Entitled “Epigenetics: How the environment affects our DNA” with a focus on the EPIBOOST project aims. This event was held in Centre Cívic Vil·la Urània, Barcelona on September 27, 2023. The event aimed to give scientific short talks on various topics and bring the research, innovations, and their protagonists to the general audience. The event ended by making random groups from the speakers and the public participate in trivia to win a prize. The trivia allowed further communication between the speakers and the public.

At Aveiro, EPIBOOST researchers from CESAM-UAVR (Joana Pereira, Inês Macário and Guilherme Jeremias) participated in the Science and Technology Fair Science@UA involving around 100 researchers, held at Fábrica – Centro de Ciência Viva de Aveiro, with the invaluable support by Carlos Silva and Albano Pinto from the EPIBOOST team. This event was aimed at bringing the science and technology developed at UAVR closer to the public, and EPIBOOST had a booth there showing our model organisms that could be observed and handled by visitors, as well as concepts within the scope of environmental epigenetics through video. The adherence was incredible and the booth was nearly always full with interested people from 9:00 PM to midnight.
