EPIBOOST short course and advanced course 2024

And a few weeks ago, EPIBOOST organised specialized training courses targeting the EU early-career research community: one short course, fully held online and open to everyone registering to attend, and one advanced course, held online and in-person, limited to 20 trainees competitively registering in advance.
The short course was composed of 4 sessions. The first, in the morning of the 29th of February 2024, addressed the history, general theory and applications in environmental epigenetics. The second, in the morning of the 1st of March, addressed genomic biomarkers in environmental assessment, the integration of epigenetics in environmental risk assessment and the framework of Adverse Outcome Pathways. The third, in the morning of the 8th of March addressed global, untargeted and targeted DNA methylation assessment, as well as diverse techniques and technologies regarding the assessment of other epigenetic mechanisms. The forth, during the whole working day in the 9th of March, addressed several case-studies presented by invited renowned researchers worldwide where environmental epigenetics is the research focus.
The advanced course was composed of the short course plus a practical week held in person, where the trainees had the opportunity of learning on and doing quality control of nucleic acid samples for epigenetics applications, global methylation assessment and the basics of experimental planning, bioinformatics and data analyses in environmental epigenetics research. This in-person week also included training in the development of important soft skills, jointly provided by the Widening projects of the University of Aveiro (more details in another post!)
